Staying in a hotel for more than a decade, I have stayed in everything from youth hostels to big five stars. The pit I stepped on can write a book. This article sorted out the experience of booking a hotel, hoping to help everyone spend less money.
I. First determine the budget and then select the scope
Budget your stay before you go, then choose from these prices. My habit: I spend 50% of my budget on “good location + good hygiene” and the rest on extra points for my experience. The location is always the first one: close to the subway, close to the scenic spot, saving time and fare, much less than the room rate. I would rather have a smaller room than a remote place. It really hurts to drag your luggage all over the city.
2. Look at the skills of evaluation
Don’t just look at the total score, focus on the bad reviews: the bad reviews mention “hygiene” and “safety”, directly pass; the bad reviews are just “noisy” or “old facilities”, see if you can accept it. Looking at recent evaluations, the reference value of the evaluation a year ago is limited. Take the children to see the “parent-child” label, travel to see the “business”, see the evaluation to bring their own needs.
3. Don’t bother with price comparison
The same hotel, different platforms, different account prices are different: new customer prices, membership prices, coupon prices can differ by dozens of hundreds of yuan. I am used to comparing two or three platforms before booking, and then choosing the most suitable one. There is another trick: the same hotel is rebooked every few days, the price may be different, you can’t wait for an emergency, you can wait if you are not in a hurry.
IV. Three actions at check-in
① Check in before checking in: bedding, bathroom, water heater, air conditioning, find the front desk to solve the problem on the spot; ② Keep the order voucher: keep the order number, payment record, and use it when disputes; ③ Remember the escape route: take a look at the floor fire diagram, and don’t forget to stay in the hotel.
5. Check-in before check-out
Don’t leave valuables at the hotel: charger, jewelry, ID card, pass drawer, under pillow, bathroom before checking out. I lost a pair of headphones and checked them every time I checked out. For hotels with a security deposit, check the account when checking out, and ask on the spot if the security deposit should be refunded.
VI. Accommodation arrangements for this trip
After 11, I planned to go to the small town in the south. I was already optimistic about two or three places to stay, and I was still in the price comparison stage: good location, windows, and a rating of 4.5 or more. The price was within the budget. If the hotel is well booked, the trip will be half successful. This sentence is really not false.
