For example, from Beijing to Hailar, round-trip in peak season costs over 2,000; off-peak in late October it can drop to around 1,200 (check real-time prices to confirm).
2. How to Compare Without Getting Burned
Don’t stare at one app — check prices on two or three platforms. After comparing, grab each platform’s coupon before ordering; they can stack. Avoid ordering on Friday and Sunday evenings, when prices tend to be higher. Connecting flights are cheaper than direct ones, but factor in connection time and delay risk.
3. What to Watch When Booking
Read the refund and change rules — many discount fares can’t be changed or refunded. Check the baggage allowance; budget airlines often exclude checked luggage. Avoid very early or very late red-eye flights — the money saved isn’t worth the hassle. And double-check the passenger name and ID number before paying; one wrong letter can void the whole ticket.
4. My Real Experience This Time
A few days ago I booked tickets to Hailar for late October: I compared prices on the platform, found a promo fare, then stacked a platform coupon — one ticket saved over 60 yuan. For the return I chose an afternoon flight; not rushing and cheaper too. In total I saved nearly 200 yuan versus my first search — enough for two plates of hand-pulled lamb on the grassland.
5. For First-Time Visitors to the Grassland
Flying to Hailar (Hulunbuir) to see golden autumn: mid-to-late October is the best window — grass is yellow, birch forests are golden, tourists are few. After landing, rent a car or hire a driver; five days or so can take you through the Morigele River, birch forests, and Manzhouli. Book your tickets early, and book accommodation early too — even in the off-season, the good homestays go fast.
